Exodus 10:18

“So, Moses left Pharoah’s court and pleaded with the Lord.” (NLT)

The Bible records how God caused an east wind to bring locusts, a devastating plague, to the land of Pharoah because of his stubbornness in letting the Israelites go. This was the eighth plague to come to the land. There were so many locusts that the land was described as ‘dark,’ and nothing remained green. Although Pharoah was warned, his refusal to listen led to their land’s devastation. To spare the land, he was forced to humble himself and request that Moses go before God and plead on his behalf.

Moses did just that. He left Pharoah’s presence to go before the Lord and interceded as asked. Rather than refuse Pharoah, he honored his request, and in doing so, the Lord sent a west wind to blow the locusts out of the land into the Red Sea. This west wind symbolizes the power of God’s mercy and forgiveness, blowing away the consequences of Pharoah’s stubbornness.

Moses, in his role as an intermediary between Pharoah and God, exemplified profound humility. Despite his knowledge of Pharoah’s heart and his status as an adversary of the people Moses was leading, he did not reject Pharoah’s plea. This act of humility and his readiness to intercede on Pharoah’s behalf serve as a compelling testament to the transformative power of prayer.

Has someone asked you to pray for them even though you know they have been stubborn? Perhaps you know that they have refused a warning from God, and now that they have been swarmed with locusts, they have sought you for prayer. Humble yourself like Moses and go before your God to pray that God might send the wind from the west to blow away what has been devouring them. Remember, our prayers have the power to bring about change and healing in the lives of others.
